Planning based on students' interest

To help me plan the curriculum for the year, I tried an activity to find out some information about my new Year 10 Art Class so I can best cater to their interests. That way tasks are relevant and students are engaged in learning and motivated.

I got this idea from a Professional development workshop I went to. I gave students a green, orange and red card.

On the green card, students were asked this question, “What aspects of art do you like or feel most confident in?

On the orange card they answered, “What would you like to know more about?”

and finally on the red card they answered, “What do you dislike or feel less confident in?”

I had a list of art electives on the board to help them or they could add their own.

As you can see I added the resposes to wordle.  The larger the word the more times it was mentioned.  I also showed the class the results.  I see I am going to have to make sure Theory lessons are exciting.

Love this idea! Using wordle for those responses only makes it even better (and more attractive for adding to the blog) :) I can't wait to figure out what I can do with this idea . . .

Fabulous idea! I love how you are connecting your student interests to your planning in such a visual way!

Did you share the class results with the students? I am wondering what they thought.

And by the way - what a gorgeous blog you have!

I love that you used Wordle as a way to gather and display this information. Your students must appreciate that you are constantly looking for ways to make their learning meaningful and fun. I am going to try this with my students!

I work with student leaders (and their teachers) this is a wonderful idea to use. Better than the "dots" on the pads of paper on the wall. :-)

I think that Wordle is great. Earlier in my career I remember creating a 'salade de mots' for French A level students to get students to 'discover' vocabulary in a forthcoming unit.

Used Wordle recently to wordle our Inspection report.

Your idea is very good though especially from A for L perspective.
